Creating imagery for the campaign

The type used in the campaign identity presentation: American Typewriter by Joel Kaden and Stan Tony.

Type: I decided to go for an open-source typeface in the designs and the same as the one I used in my 'whose history?' writing for the campaign id. Both in heavier weights to call more to the attention of the audience. Outward is a more condensed and geometric typeface that I decided to use for the imagery as it invites, in my opinion, the audience to reach closer and give it more attention.

Furthermore, in the imagery I created, in some cases decided to use repetition in the type as well as the graphic elements.

Phrases used: 'But who designed it??' (name of the campaign); 'Let's support the designers without a Wikipedia page!' (came from a conversation we had on the writing workshop 02 about how the tic tac clock has a Wikipedia page and the designer that created it doesn't).

Posters: I decided to create two options. A visual focused and a type focused. Doing this would give me both options and a wider approach to the matters.

Collage posters - I scanned some imagery from the Made in North Korea book by Nicholas Bonner and then overlayed some graphic elements, as well as type to create these posters.

Why did I choose to use the imagery of comic books from the whole collection book? Usually, comic books have on the cover or on the technical page the creator and the artist but these don't. It is a graphic product without a known creator.

Type focused posters - I created the type focused posters because I was advised in my last tutorial to create also my own imagery and not just using the existing imagery I had collected.
While creating all posters (collage and type focus) I had The DOT workshop with Eddy Niles in mind I used a combination of graphic elements using the dot as a focal point, and type to create these posters.
I also took into account the lecture we had with Sheena Calvert about Rational objective design and tried to show the main point without adding unnecessary elements that could potentially distract the audience.

Billboard: I decided to create a billboard design and mockup to wider my options of visualising this campaign in the outside world. The billboard is type focused with the graphic elements because I wanted to be simple/ minimal and accessible. Furthermore, I didn't want to shock anyone using North Korean graphics in something that could potentially reach a lot more people then the poster, because of the ethical problems of these graphics I wrote in the Writing piece 02 page.

Social media assets: As per my original idea was to create this campaign fully online, until I realised that the print was needed to represent the printed products that the designers I am trying to call attention to create. Therefore, I still created a couple of social media assets to go with the printed campaign. This gives the campaign two ways to reach my audience doubling my chances of it reaching more people.

Colour palette: Comes from the original comic book images. The red, pink, yellow and blue come from the type and background on the original images.

Overall, I feel that the design outcome I created have a lot of strong points and show the main point very clearly. I feel that I was able to respond to the brief I created for myself very well and would look forward to actually put this campaign in the active.
