Cover Inspiration

Note

As discussed in my feedback session, the covers of my publication were too bare and didn't feel like a cover at all. Therefore I went to look for some inspiration that I could base myself to further develop these covers. After some research on imagery websites, I found some old school, 1900s, storytelling book covers that are the great inspiration for my publication.

I tried to create a more modern, contemporary image but still based on these 1900s book covers. At first, I created 2 options, but in the end, I choose the first option. This seemed the most appropriate choice to go with as it fit better within the colour palette of the rest of the publication. I also chose this option as it was the most playful and cheerful one. Also, with tarot being a subject that is usually associated with darker more toned down colours this option was the most daring one.

The images below show the two options, with front and back covers, illustrations, and the box.

Updated publications with the suggestions from the feedback session

What I changed:

  • made the images bigger;
  • added 1 caption for the images and illustrations in the back cover;
  • added the page number only in the inside pages;
  • took away the pattern illustration and added only the illustration itself;
  • changed the front and back covers;
  • changed the indents to 12pt (same as leading);
  • changed the headings (word space and hyphenation).

Box

As per my beginning idea of creating a box, just like the one where the decks of cards go in, with the covers and colour palette settled I was able to then create the box.
